We have a tradition in our family. I had originally thought it started when my brother was but a wee babe. His 1st birthday cake was in the shape of a bunny. Since then, I can't remember an Easter celebration without one. I learned this year that the tradition started many years before that...even before my mom and dad were a mom and dad---truthfully before they were even Lois and John...it was just Lois and Alice (her best friend) and Alice's sister Carol (the one with the great picture of the original bunny cake from 1972. My dear
Tara got me thinking about this grand tradition that was started by these unknowing 18? year olds---I guess that is how the best traditions do start---unknowingly.

This year we broke from tradtion, a bit, per the request of a very cute 4 year old girl...she (and Carol) wanted a chocolate bunny with chocolate icing...who are we to argue? Carol baked the bunny and brought it over to Pop and Nana's house where the decorating took place by our decorating team. Luckily, the best two were available and they really don't ask for much in return for their talents---if you'll look in Sam's non-decorating hand you will see his payment---an ice cream sandwich...because jelly beans and icing weren't enough.

Drum roll, please...

I dare say the BEST bunny cake yet!

Yes, some families may get all dressed up for their Easter photo...not Team Davis! For some reason, we ended up with a Bulldog cheerleader and (of course) a Super Sam in a cape. I wouldn't want it any other way...

A 38-year old bunny cake and a brand new bunny cake...who would have thought the twain shall meet. And your mother and I were there for both of them. I love it.
