party time

Yesterday we partied it up to celebrate Reilly-Kate's 5th birthday. Yes, she is about a week out of tonsil surgery...poor planning on my part or positive thinking for her recovery? A little of both, I think. There were a couple times during her party where she looked exhausted and just laid down...those are the times I had the feeling of being a very bad mommy...but then she would be playing with her friends and cousins and all was well.
Being in the business that I am in, I enjoy very much that people don't like to have birthday parties at their home. I want them to come to our store and pay us to show them a good time and then clean up afterwards for them. But I must say, even in spite of my "house hangover" this morning, I love having get togethers at our house. I love the kids running around outside and in, setting up the kiddy pool, having family and friends, from near and far, old and new, be able to hang out and just relax. Even though I didn't sit down for the majority of the day, it was fantastic to have our loved ones come together.
Life is so busy and it always amazes me how many people will take time out of their lives to join us in celebrating. It always makes me thankful.
We've lived in this house for a little over 3 years now. I love that we have a history of birthday celebrations here. During these years its mostly the same people gathered but every time we are also lucky enough to add new friends that feel like family and that make the party seem complete. I love that our kids will have sweet memories of all the people that loved them enough to help us celebrate the day that they were given to us.
